How many of you remember the reset button? Most computers don’t have them anymore, because if they were inadvertantly tapped, it would cause the computer to instantly reboot. It’s happened to most, if not all of us, including me.
In my case, it was my young, curious, and admittedly clutzy cat Lex. He wanted to see what I was doing, so he decided to crawl over the top of the computer tower, so he could see. While traversing the top of the tower his paw landed on the reset button, and whatever he wanted to see was no longer on the screen. Instead the screen went blank and the computer started rebooting.
Well, after that incident I made a little plastic flip top lid to cover that button, just in case Lex decided crawling across my computer a convienent way to travel.
Still, they served their purpose. If your needed to quick reboot your computer, a simple tap of the reset button and you were on your way. But, have any of you ever just sat there and held down the reset button? What it did was create a break in the line between the power source to the CPU. If you held down the button, the line remained broke and the computer would just sit there, blank and waiting.
Most of us make New Year’s resolutions, and we hit that reset button. By the same token though, most of us don’t want to let go of the behaviors that have to change to bring our resolutions to fruition. So, we hold the button. We stall. A quick break in the habit saying that we want to change, then we return to our old ways.
So, how do we take that next step? How do we let go of the button, and make an actual change? For me, I need accountability. I need to be challenged, and held accountable to those challenges. That was one of the reasons for the creation of this sight. To be held accountable to write everyday, to make it an integral part of my life. One of the hardest things ever was for me to hit post on Facebook announcing, “Here I am. Come see.”
One of the other reasons for this site is to garner donations for the On The Road Campaign at church. Well, I made a few pledges at the top of the year myself. First, was to have the faith to do what God asks of me. Second, was to commit to write every day. Third was to loss the weight and regain my fitness.
Now I know some of you out there understand fitness, nutrition, and the need for motivation and challenge. So, I’m adding a page here called “Writer’s Cramps” to track my fitness. A kind of “by the numbers” snapshot of how I’m doing. I’m opening up my requests (requests@fivedollarsoffaith.com) to not only story ideas but to nutritional and exercise challenges.
If you send me a challenge it goes to the Writer’s Cramps page, and I will provide updates accordingly there. Then, when the challenge is complete, you make a “reward” donation. You want me to do 100 push-ups a day for two weeks…fine. (I won’t like it, but I will do it). How about walk (or jog) a mile each day for a month? Or even a weekend challenge, say $1 for every mile I bike over a weekend?
Or on the flip side, there is nutrition. Like no sweets or no alcohol until the end of March? You could even ask me to give up……*gulp*…..caffeine.
I await your challenge! And thank you for your help.
No caffeine …I could never ask anyone to give it up. Sweets however, I will commit to a no sweets challenge if you will!
